Description
CELEBRATE THE QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE WITH BRITISH WINES MADE FROM APPLES, PEARS & OTHER FRUITS – HELPING MAKE BRITISH CIDERS GREAT AGAIN!

Ciders, perries and fruit wines are the essence of nature, transformed by the natural process of fermentation, and enhanced by human intervention.
Cider Is Wine celebrates this special event with this carefully chosen case:
Welsh Mountain Redstreak 2020
Made mostly from the lovely, soft, bittersweet Somerset Redstreak apple, complemented by the acidity of the fresh and highly-scented Brown’s apple. This makes for a perfect for early Spring bottling and a pleasant lower in alcohol cider option.
The Newt Fine Cyder 2020
The 2020 vintage fine cyder has been made with specially selected dessert apples using precise wine-making techniques and slowly cold fermented in the cellar. The result is a super-fresh elegant cyder.
Llanblethian La Petite Grange du Cidre 2020
The overall trophy at the IWSC 2021 awards for wines from apples, pears and other fruits!
Made as a ‘keeved’ cider in the French style from late ripening varieties Ashton Brown Jersey, Black Tom Put, Bramley, Dabinett, Golden Knob, Sweet Copin & Yarlington Mill.
Llanblethian’s product quality philosophy is all about honesty and transparency: use only 100% fresh fruit, so as to retain all the delicate apple flavour compounds, never use ‘fruit’ concentrate (often stuffed full of preservatives to prolong shelf life), never add water to ‘fiddle’ the ABV, nor use fruit flavours (often chemical-laden). In fact all Llanblethian Orchards ciders and perries have full ingredient labelling, including juice content.
Traditional keeved cider made with a blend of vintage cider apple varieties and a small quantity eating apples to add fruitiness. The natural keeving process gives a depth of colour which is a wonderful bronze gold.
Once Upon A Tree Dabinett Pinot Noir Co-Ferment 2019
This cider co-ferment builds on a passion to raise the profile of cider as a wine alternative, which combines winemaking techniques and grape bi-products with cider. Made from 100% not-from-concentrate fruit, from a single vintage of Dabinett and dessert apples, co-fermented over Pinot Noir grape skins. An all-natural fusion of red berry fruits and apple richness and a huge mouthful of fruit enlivened by a gentle spritz. The complex of soft grape and apple tannins give this co-ferment a grown up, sophisticated approach, with huge length and a soft dry finish.
English Wine Project King of the Orchard
From an award-winning wine producer, this cider is unadulterated and true to its English roots and heritage. Produced with 100% apples, but a wine by any other name that delivers the orchard’s terroir in the bottle (to use a wine term) using the method most suited to the apple varieties used
Blue Aurora Blueberry Ice Wine
The 2020 vintage fine cyder has been made with specially selected dessert apples using precise wine-making techniques and slowly cold fermented in the cellar. The result is a super-fresh elegant cyder.
Tasting Notes
Welsh Mountain Redstreak 2020
A nose of vanilla rum sweetness with notes of apricot, juniper, jasmine and cedar. Pressed in 2020 and bottled young to allow the residual sugar to ferment in the bottle to create a light effervescence. The acidity from the Brown’s apple and the light natural carbonation complement the soft tannins of the Somerset Redstreak to create a beautifully balanced cider.
The Newt Fine Cyder 2020
A ripe pear, melon and almond bouquet balanced by a palate of crisp apple.
Llanblethian La Petite Grange du Cidre 2020
Whilst some may describe it as sweet, it’s perhaps more medium than sweet – and utterly delicious for all that – its sweet flavour is balanced with tannic body where the Yarlington Mill shines through: honeyed sweetness comes from the Golden Knob and the fresh apple sharpness from the Bramleys.
Once Upon A Tree Dabinett Pinot Noir Co-Ferment 2019
Vibrant dark pink in appearance, with aromas of strawberry, honey, as well as hints of vanilla spice and toffee apple… this cider presents an excellent fusion of red berry fruits from the Pinot grape and an apple richness from the Dabinett apples to give the palate a huge mouthful of fruit, enlivened by a gentle spritz. This is an altogether grown up, sophisticated approach, with huge length and a soft dry finish.
English Wine Project King of the Orchard
Made from 75% Dabinett and 25% Spartan apples fermented and matured in bourbon barrels and then put into bottle unfiltered for a secondary fermentation. After ageing on the lees the cider is riddled and disgorged with no dosage added before closing with cork and wine which maintains its overall dry characteristics with a bourbon, cooked apple aroma and taste.
Blue Aurora Blueberry Ice Wine
Dark berries and red fruits nose with a delicate hint of candied violet and rose petal. The palate is velvety smooth and devilishly pure, with ripe berry notes reminiscent of kirsch or blueberry jam. A refreshing acidity lifts the sweet finish.
Food Pairing
Welsh Mountain Redstreak 2020
Pairs easily with most foods: great with a BBQ, roast or stir fry, its acidity and sparkle also nicely cuts through heavier dishes.
The Newt Fine Cyder 2020
Perfect with scallops, oyster or any fish. Or serve simply by itself.
Llanblethian La Petite Grange du Cidre 2020
A wine which can pair with both savoury and sweet. Delicious with a home-made sausage roll and brilliant with pâté. La Grange will transform simple roast corn-fed chicken – especially using a splash in the gravy – into a wonderful dining experience. Perfect for a picnic or a Ploughman’s Lunch. Also great with Welsh lamb or roast duck and can also be paired with cheesecake for dessert.
Once Upon A Tree Dabinett Pinot Noir Co-Ferment 2019
Delicious with seared scallops… a great match with salmon or lobster, it also works well with duck and rare-cooked lamb.
English Wine Project King of the Orchard
To be enjoyed in a flute glass to display the fine mousse of minute bubbles that help enhance the flavours. Pairs wonderfully with roasted vegetables or roast pork and crackling, pork belly, roasted and barbecued chicken and sausages. Also goes well with flavourful East Asian food.
Blue Aurora Blueberry Ice Wine
Serve lightly chilled. Pairs perfectly with cheese boards, or alongside a rich chocolate dessert, or enjoy added to sparkling wine as an aperitif, or simply on its own as a fantastic digestif.
