FOOD MATCHING WITH CIDER

Cider is amazing when it comes to food – in fact, if you drink wine with food, then you’re sure to find a cider that goes just as well – if not better!

The cider wheel on the left gives an overview and here are a few top tips for pairing this fabulous drink with food.

  • Fruity dishes are complemented by fruity ciders – and fruit-driven and sweeter ciders work with both sweet or savoury dishes…
  • Pork and cider are a match made in heaven and can go wonderfully well with sausages, chops or bacon and help create uniquely delicious flavours…
  • Cider also goes well with many chicken dishes…
  • Seafood, too – a crisp, dry cider can be every bit as good as most dry wines…
  • Whilst sweet ciders can work really well with curry dishes, helping to dampen any heat, dry ciders tend to enhance spiciness…
  • Cider works well with most vegetables – it’s worth pairing a sweet cider with the natural sweetness of roasted root vegetables…
  • Then there’s cider and cheese – a classic that’s stood the test of time over the centuries: and not only Cheddar, but goat and sheep’s cheeses, too, and creamier cheeses like Brie and Camembert – and don’t forget that sweet ciders contrast wonderfully with the sort of  salty flavours found in blue cheeses.
