Abavas
In the relatively short period since 2010, when Abavas was founded, it has already become Latvia’s biggest, best-equipped, most well-known and highly regarded producer of aromatic fruit wines, fortified wines, ciders, and distilled spirits.
Named after the river Abava and located on its banks above the 57th parallel north, near the town of Slampe, it has over 4 hectares of vines under cultivation and, in area long famous for skilful winemakers, is itself an exemplar of quality Nordic viticulture and the passion of its owners. Then there is the organic orchard next to the winery, the source of ancient apple varieties for cidermaking.
The Abava valley itself is home to over 50 species of dragonfly and the company uses a dragonfly as the symbol of the winery.
